How to Duplicate or Archive a Campaign

1 min read

Duplicating or archiving a campaign helps you manage your fundraising workflow efficiently. You can reuse successful campaign setups or close completed ones while preserving donation data. GiveWP provides built-in tools to handle both actions directly from the Campaigns dashboard.

Access the Campaigns Dashboard #

  1. In your WordPress dashboard, go to GiveWP → Campaigns.
  2. Locate the campaign you want to duplicate or archive.
  3. Hover over the campaign title to reveal available actions.

The Campaigns screen lists all your campaigns with their current status (Active, Draft, or Archived), total raised, and number of donors.

How to Duplicate a Campaign #

Duplicating a campaign creates a new copy with the same settings, goal, and layout — allowing you to quickly launch similar fundraising efforts without rebuilding from scratch.

  1. Hover over the campaign and click Duplicate.
  2. A new draft campaign will appear in your list, labeled as “Copy.”
  3. Open the duplicated campaign to edit its details:
    • Update the Title and Description.
    • Replace the Cover Image if needed.
    • Adjust the Goal Amount or goal type.
    • Edit the Donation Form to reflect new messaging or pricing.
  4. Click Publish when the new campaign is ready to go live.

Tip: Duplicating is useful for recurring seasonal drives (e.g., annual charity events) or when testing variations of the same cause.

How to Archive a Campaign #

Archiving a campaign hides it from your website but retains all donation data for records and reports.

  1. Go to GiveWP → Campaigns.
  2. Hover over the campaign you want to archive and click Archive.
  3. Confirm when prompted.

Once archived:

  • The campaign and its forms will no longer appear on the front end.
  • Donors can’t submit new donations through that campaign.
  • All historical donations and donor data remain accessible in the admin panel.
  • The campaign’s status will change to Archived.

You can still view archived campaigns under the Status filter in the Campaigns list.

How to Restore an Archived Campaign #

If you need to reopen a past campaign:

  1. In GiveWP → Campaigns, filter the list by Archived status.
  2. Hover over the campaign you want to restore.
  3. Click Unarchive or Activate (depending on your GiveWP interface).
  4. Review all settings, forms, and goal details before republishing.

The campaign will return to Active status and become visible on your site again.

Important Notes #

  • Archiving does not delete data. It’s a safe way to remove campaigns from public view while maintaining full records.
  • If you delete a campaign instead of archiving it, donation history tied to that campaign will be permanently removed.
  • Duplicated campaigns do not copy donation data — only structure and design.
  • Always verify payment gateway connections after duplicating a campaign to avoid mismatched settings.

Best Practices #

  • Archive campaigns once their fundraising period is over to keep reports organized.
  • Use duplication to quickly relaunch similar campaigns with minimal setup.
  • Add version or year labels (e.g., “Education Fund 2025”) to distinguish future copies.
  • Keep your campaign list clean by archiving outdated or test versions.
